Who Is Teaching Your Ballerina?

January 22, 2018

Donna Smith

As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a ballerina. All my birthday cakes had ballerinas on them. In the fifth grade I was able to finally take ballet classes. I loved dancing from the beginning. I drove my mother crazy dancing all over the house. I especially liked the kitchen for practicing. It had a great floor for doing pirouettes (turns) and I used the counter tops as a ballet barre. Very often I was kicked out of the kitchen so my mother could cook!

From fifth grade through high school I studied dance at the Academy of Ballet in the Royal Academy style. Occasionally, I would take classes at Margo Marshall School of Dance. In college I studied under Stanley Hall at the University of Texas and the Austin Ballet Theater and also the Austin Civic Ballet. In 1983 I began teaching dance for Susan Bates of Super Stars Dance. Eventually, I formed my own dance program called A Time Dance. I love teaching children to dance and want very much to provide dance classes that are wholesome and God honoring.

Hannah Torn

Hello, My name is Hannah Torn. I am a 20 year old Nursing major at University of Houston Downtown. I am so pleased to be working with Ms. Donna and sharing my passion for dance. I enrolled in my first dance class when I was 6, and fell in love! I took tap, jazz and ballet  every school year since that first class and enjoyed every aspect of dance. My final year in High School, I had the pleasure of assisting with the younger students and found something I truly enjoy! It is my honor to be working with the students and sharing the joy that dancing can bring!

This is Hannah's first year with A Time to Dance. She brings excitement, joy, love for children and dependability to the classroom. We are so thankful for her.

Scarlett Kelley

Scarlett began her ballet and tap training at age 3 with the Texas Tap Ensemble. Her dance experience spans across the Houston area, including time at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, West University Dance Centre and the Tribble School of Musical Theatre and Dance. Scarlett graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 2012 and went onto Loyola University New Orleans. There she received her Bachelor's of Arts as well as a Minor in Ballet in 2016. Scarlett has taught with Banbury's School of Dance (Houston), Articulate Motions Dance Academy, and Loyola University’s Ballet Prep School (New Orleans). Scarlett studied Psychology in college and enjoys expanding her knowledge on similar subjects in her spare time.
